We have a section of our network that uses Clacc C subnets but they all use the same Class B gateway.
How does this work?
Subnets
10.1.1.0/24
10.1.2.0/24
10.1.3.0/24
Somehow I don't think it will work. Is it really working? Is that 10.1.0.1/16 really their gateway? You can type "ipconfig /all" on command prompt(cmd.exe) on those PC on each network to confirm the actual gateway.
Yes it will work, the same way summarization works. When a router summarizes subnets, it lowers the mask to include many subnets represented in the same mask. 10.1.x.x/30 all the way down to 10.1.x.x/17 would work for this gateway. Administrators do this all the time with static routes to lower the size of the routing tables in the routers.
