has someone experience with the Gatekeeper discovery feature on the new ELU32? Is it possible to let the IP Phone discover a gatekeeper without explicit configure a gatekeeper in the phone?

Hi jake3,

Yes, both the IP-phone and ECC can use the automatic
gatekeeper feature. You just set the phone or client to
discover a gatekeeper and it will receive the IP and
settings of the gatekeeper. Sort of like DHCP but
different.

Hi,
How did you do that. I have tried but never succed.

Hi henjoh,

Are you using the physical DBC IP-phone or ECC or another H.323 software?

Anyhow, first make sure that the network where your ELU32 and your client are supports multicast. No multicast, no discovery, this can be a problem if you have routers in between.

In the MD110 make sure you have set the GKID parameter to something. E.g.

IPGKC:LIM=1,GKID=SOMETHING;

Then in your software set the gatekeeper identifier to "SOMETHING".

If you are using the DBC IP-phone set the GatekeeperID
value to SOMETHING and GatekeeperDiscovery=YES in the
IP-phone.cfg file which are loaded as you boot the IP phone.

Did you get it to work?

Hi,

What do you mean with this line:

Then in your software set the gatekeeper identifier to "SOMETHING".

I still have problems with this.

Cif.

I mean that it does not matter what word you use as long as it corresponds with the word used in the
IPGKC:LIM=1,GKID=SOMETHING; command.

In my ip-phone the gate keeper ID is an IP-address.
And the gatekeeper in md110 accepts no ip-address as gatekeeper ID.

Hmmm... Why don't you change it in your IP-Phone so that it corresponds with what was configured with the IPGKC:LIM=1,GKID=SOMETHING; command?

You might be confusing the gatekeeper address which is an IP address with GatekeeperID which can be what ever you set it to.

Hi,

First question is:

Are ELU32 and ip phones in same network address?

Because if not there is a router in midle and multicast traffic that is necessary to automatic gk discovery work are not forwarded by router if not configured.

Second:
GKID in ECC or in IP phone config file should be equal to GKID that you configured with IPGKC in MD110. if you have only ip phones go to web admin page of ip phone and check if ip gkid is correc.

Try also restart ELU32 and ping 224.0.1.41 (multicast address of gk discovery)
