I have a Compaq Presario, Pentium 3/450mghz with Windows 98 1st edition. Occationally, when I move the mouse to wake the pc, I get a garbled screen (completely scrambled, just mixtures of color and format). Other times the monitor will not automatically turn on. Rebooting will correct it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Standby in windows is bugged according to Microsoft so it's common for it to not work properly. But is the screen saver on? If yes turn it off. It can conflict with standby and there's no need for it to be turned on if you're using standby to turn off the monitor.

Thanks for your help. It did not used to do this so something has changed. Guess I'll just have to live with it.
