Every time an external caller leaves a message, it's a garbled audio file. Internal calls can leave a message and it works fine. We have SIP trunking into the SV9500, via an MG-SIP. The carrier uses G729. Outside callers can also TALK to a live person in the system just fine. It's only when the outside caller ends up in the voicemail system when it gets garbled.

I haven't been able to debug this - and for now, this is all the data I can provide (that I think is relevant).

Anybody has any ideas?

Do you have Location Id and payload between the MG-SIP and UM8700 set up (ALOCL and AIVCL)?

Yes, ALOCL and AIVCL are all set up, forcing G729 with 40ms - next thing when I get a chance is I'll try 20ms.

So far I've had no luck resolving this. The latest I did was I installed wireshark on the UM8700. I called it and left a message. The message is all garbled when I listen to it by calling my mailbox.

HOWEVER!

When I tell wireshark to decode the audio stream for that call, it's totally clean both ways. Both the greeting "please leave a message" and the message left sound totally clean and normal. So proper audio is being sent to the voicemail system. It just somehow doens't record it in the correct format...
But still, if an internal caller gets forwarded to voicemail, then their message gets recorded just fine.

I've changed the payload to 20ms, and it worked!!! Problem solved.
