gaps in tables

I have a simple table containing 4 images.
I IE6 there is a 1 pixel gap between 2 of the images but in FF the images are rendered correctly.
Any clues as to the cause?

remove all whitespace from between your image tags.

Try setting the cellspacing and cellpadding properties of your table to 0px. as well as border on the images and the table.

The problem was an un-closed <tr> but the mystery is why FF rendered it correctly.

closing </tr> tags are said to be optional.

I had put another opening tag at the end of the line (missed off the slash) and that produced a horizontal line under the image. It is true what you say about being able to miss them off, I tried it.
