Gap between shared borders...how do I shorten it?

Hi. I'm trying to shorten the gap between my shared borders in FP 2002. Any ideas? I took a picture of it to show you what I mean, which you can see here:

sorry...I should also say that I want the shared border to appear as one window and the main area of the page to appear as a second window. This is the regular NON-shared border page:

(That's how I want the shared border to the left to look). Here's the closest I can get it:
