I bought a Gainward 650/Ultra 64MB DDR in Febuary(not the 8X version, my one isnt on the website!!!), and it everything with it was fine until it started to crash in random games, such as Warcraft 3, and now the cradhing has become more and more frequent, until it happens in nearly all games and happens pretty immediately. I don't think it is a confliciotn, but I have upfated the drivers several times, but it still keeps crashing. When I mean crashing, I mean lots of coloured bars appearing on the screen, usually green or pink. Even after restarted via the button on the casing, it still is like this, foricng me to turn it off completely at the switch. It has even begun to happen whilst on the internet, which has never happened before. Any suggestions?

For Geforce 4 cards i recommend using the 43.45 or the 44.03 drivers .Theese has been working best for me .(GF4-TI4200)

45.xx - 52.xx is optimized for Geforce-FX cards .

I have got the 4.13 drivers off the Gainward site the other week, as they were tweaked for my card, I got the latest DirectX, I have reinstalled it, I just don't know what to do anymore...

Don't oveclock it with expert tool .
Make sure your inside case temperature is okay.
Install 34.45 or 44.03 and install coolbits
to overclock the card instead of expert tool.

I ain't overclocking either, I was even considering underclocking the card. The temperature is around 25C in my casing, not enough to make it crash, unlesss gainward made an ass job of the fan and cooling paste.
But I shall look at those drivers....thanks all.

Hi !
I had a typo in the last post "Install 34.45 or 44.03 and install coolbits"

Should be of course "Install 43.45 or 44.03 and install coolbits"
Good site is:

It's also a good idea to install latest DX9 wich is 9.0B .

Cheers and good luck

Got latest Direct X too, is my VGA that messed up, and thanks for your help again. I suppose I sohlud have said drivers, directX in my starting post, but hey, you live, you learn....

Is the fault solved , please enlighten me .
What was it.

No it ain't solved one bit, although I am beginning to suspect a faulty card or a confliction with my sound card, a sound blaster 5.1 live.

Remove all unecessary cards and periferals, ideally you need a clean install of Windows and latest drivers on a minimal bare system before you write the card off as faulty.
Maybe you have a small/spare HD that you can clean install to test.
I suspect the graphics card also but the above might help either way. Martin

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

what is your AGP aperture size set to in the BIOS?
in your case it should be 64mb or lower
