Greetings,

I am running W7 Home Premium. I have one running Gadget and want to add a calendar from the Microsoft site. I download it and then try to install. When I click install nothing happens. I tried to download it again and ended up with the same results. I also downloaded another gadget and had the same results. Any ide how to get this gadget installed?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Try going to All Programs|Desktop Gadget Gallery & open from there.

Are you using Parental Controls on the user who is trying to install Gadgets?

There is a Calendar already included in the Defaults Gadgets.

Have you tried right-clicking on any install.exe and selecting the "Run As Administrator" option, or temporarily disabling UAC and any running realtime virus scanning?

Greetings,

Thanks for the prompt replies. Here is an update.

The Gadget never shows up in the Gadget Gallery.

No parental controls are in place. I have turned off Anti Virus and UAC and get the same results. When right clicking I do not get an option to run as an Administrator.

Any more ideas? TIA

Do you have any Gadgets listed if you create another user and test with that?

What is the file extension of the downloaded Gadget that you tried to install, is it a .msi or similar?

See if any of these options will allow you to run any .msi with higher privileges?

MSI "Run as administrator" Context Menu for Vista

Try this from an elevated Command Prompt msiexec /a (and enter your full path to the .msi)

Can you extract the files and find a Setup.exe to right-click on and "Run As an Administrator"?

Howto: extract files from a .msi file using the Windows command line

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.

Greetings,

Thanks for all your suggestions!

BigBadBen - I opened the ref page and opened the registry. When I drilled down through the registry, I found that I had
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar
But there was no \Settings

Should I add this?

Linney - the gadget extension is gadget. I have not tried another user

there is a download link on that page for a .REG file, download it and double click it, it will add the correct line in the registry for you...

that way it is easier and safer to use...

PS: I checked the link and the REG file... it is safe to use...

Greetings,

Well I addded the registry key and still the Gadget won't install. I checked the Gadget Gallery to make sure. Any more ideas?

Thanks to all for your help!
