Have an office with an s8300 in a g700 along with 3 more g700s. Switched to ip phones so wanted to know if it was safe to remove those 3 g700s now that they are no longer needed for digital phones? If so, how can g700s be redeployed for smaller offices to work without an s8300 or as an lsp if possible? Does anyone have detailed steps for removing g700 from a config (removal of media gateway, ips from p330, etc..)? Lastly, are the MMxxx cards hot swappable?
Thanks

you don't have to worry about removing them from the P330 stack processor, that is self healing. You need to remove the cards from the COmmunication Manager, and remove the gateways via "remove media x" from CM. B efore you can remove the media gateways, all of the MM cards must be removed.

first, disable TTI "change system features", turn off TTI.

wait for TTI to be dsiabled (check with "status TTI")

once all of the ports have been "X"'d out (via removing all digital phone ports), you should be able to physically remove the MM717 or MM712 digital cards, and have them show up as removed via a "display media x" or "list config all"

once all MM circuit packs are removed, you can issue a "remove media x" command, to remove that media gateway. You might also have to "disable announcement 00XV(" to remove the gateway, and if you had any announcments on that gateway, they would need to be moved as well.

don't forget to enable TTI again.

the G700 can be used at another location, via reconfigurig, it, however, if you are on CM5 you can no longer buy a "new" license for it. CM4 or older, you can still get an LSP license, however, its costs $4200.

MM cards are hot swappable, except for the S8300, unless you shut it down first, and it's always a good idea to just power down if changing out the S8300

Finally, if you have "P330 stacking" cables on the rear of the G700's, you will need to remove them of course...

Sorry to hijack the thread - but I have a similar situation and just need to check;

I have a g700 (3 x G700) & s8300 system at v4 and another main system at V5. I will be wanting to turn the G700s into a remote gateway (with 1 S8300 LSP) from the main system

Will I be able to relicence the gateways to the main system or is the "new" licence restriction only preventing fgresh standalone implementations?

you can't buy a "new" standalone license for a G700 with CM5, you can buy an LSP license for an existing CM5 system, and add a G700 as an LSP with an S8300 in it.

AVAYA is trying to get everyone to upgrade (to new gateways as well). They would rather you not use your old G250/G350 and G700 gateways, however, then can be used as LSP's with newer switches, and you can get an LSP license for them, you just can't get a CM5 NEW main switch license for these gateways, as they are no longer sold "new"

Also, if the older gateways are on ANY other CM license, it is like pulling teeth to get the SN removed form the old license, so the gateway can be licensed as an LSP on a different SID... It can be done, but it requires a $245 charge from AVAYA, to have them remove the old SN from an old license, to free up the SN for a new license. It's a racket.
