hi,

I have just created a new windows 2003 domain as i was on NT 4 before with PC's and one G5 accessing the servers fine. Now though from the MAC i can see the new domain but when i try and connect to one of the servers it asks for the user name and password but then says the alais ServerName could not be opened because the orginal item could not be found. i can even ping the mac from the domain.

any ideas?

john

Hello Johncan20, I had the exact issue, and to be honest I couldn't resolve it. My solution for my client was to purchase DAVE which works great. I later found out the problem might be in rezendovous. Try the apple website to seen if their is any patches or fixes, good luck. Please let me know what you find, solution or not. Thanks.

No Johncan20 I will give it tried myself, thanks for the updated. Are you running Server 2003 standard or enterprise?

i'm running server 2003 standard. i have it working now i installed file services for MAC/UAM on the client and created a MAC share. I couldnt get it working by browsing the network i had to open server! still not got it connecting to exchange yet.

Hey Johncan20, is your 2003 server a domain controller? Do you have Active Directory services install? I'm still having same problem after updating the UAM, plus adding files services for mac. Works fine if I don't install Active directory on server, still troubleshooting i will get back.

Hello. I too am having the same problem with a Mac g4 and Windows 2003 which happens to be an AD domain controller. I have 2 other Windows servers which are not AD domain controllers and I can mount shares from them without issue. We may be on to something :).

have you tried doing it with open server and typing in the ip address? that is the only way i could get it to work.

By deafult Windows Server 2003 will try to encrypt everything sent to and from it. With this enabled you will not be able to log in to the share from your Mac.
To fix this there are a couple of options.
Case 1, your server is nothing more than a regular file server. In this case open up regedit (Start > Run > "regedit" {return}), and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ LanManServer \ Parameter \ RequireSecuritySignature, and set it's value to "0".
Case 2, your server is also a Domain Controller. In which case you need to open the DC's Security Policy (Administrative Tools > Domain Controller Security Policy). Navigate to Local Policies > Secuiry Options, and disable "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)" & "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (if client agrees)". Reboot your sever, and you should be good to
