Hi All,

I've got a new customer with 10 G450's, the customer says that the previous BP could not get SNMP to work, so I've been tasked with getting it up and running. I've never had to configure this before and I'm slightly confused and need some pointers.

Firstly my understanding is that SNMP can be configured for traps and access to the GW. The traps are sent by the GW as and when an event/issue occurs.. The SNMP access allows the customers NMS to access the GW to interrogate it or to change it's config, if they have RW access??

So the traps and access are configured with community strings, are the strings configured for traps the same for access etc or are they different?? Is there a limit on the number of community strings you can configure??

In the running-config of the GW I can see the following entry:

encrypted-snmp-server community read-only pa3WkzWsptYKzfHMNvQ9A9eZNqnEDkv5yxlqVG0s23/O0y+dWb/peUM6u read-write 7CaZ4CDfY06mrj66M+dHQ4S0I3d7shZUHXZHJEE/asGXO+Y1z/us9d5Lu

I'm guessing this is the snmp config for accessing the GW and I have a read-only and a read-write string?? But how do I know what the community strings are??

In the show snmp command I see the following:
HQ-g450-001(super)# show snmp

Authentication trap enabled

Community-Access Community-String
---------------- ----------------
read-only *****
read-write *****

Do the ***** community strings above refer to the RO ad RW strings in the encrypted-snmp-server community??

Hi Marcus,

I've never tried to browsing to the MG? Does this rely on SNMP??

You should be prompted to login with what could be your SNMP "credentials" i.e "public"
