I have never updated the firmware on a g430, I am on 31.22.0 and want to go to 31.26.0. I have done g700 before. Just wondering if there is much difference. I just telnet to the IP of the MG copy tftp etc..... when doing the g700. I went through upgrading with my predecessor once, so I am always nervous, not quite sure what I am doing.

Avaya has also advised me to reboot my media gateways. I am under the assumption that the reset command would reset and wipe all the settings. I am not the one who set them up, and would hate to have to figure it all out. Just wondering best methods and commands to simply reboot a media gateway.

reset will just reset the device , nvram is required to wipe the data , after making any programming changes ensure you"copy run start" , regarding the firmware you have 2 boot banks on the MG so copy your new firmware to the inactive boot bank and then activate it and reset , this means you have a roll back plan.

So show boot bank
set bank bank x

For your copying of firmware.

copy ftp SW_imageA
copy ftp SW_imageB

Have a look at this doc

ACIS (UC)

Thanks, will do. I remember the different banks. My direct instructions from predecessor were these:

telnet to IP of media gateway
login xxxx pw xxxxxx
conf
show mgp boot
copy tftp mgp-image A MGP_30_27_1.bin xx.xx.x.xx (ip of tftp server)
when done do:
set mgp bootimage A (because B was active before, loaded to A, now activate A) If need to go back, set bootimage to B)
reset mgp
done

Not once have I been shown how to update different MM's 711, 717, etc. I have pages and pages of out dated stuff, but I don't plan on updating it all, since most everything is working fine. Just want to get a few choice things updated.

media modules are easy enough to update. usually something like:

copy tftp mm v5 mm717f99.fdl 10.10.10.10

or some such similar syntax - copy tftp help to figure it out.

and then something like show firm down 10 stat, or stat firm down 10 to show what its doing. It usually takes 10 mins or so.
