Current hard drive (only drive in system) is 4 gig - too small to do what I need/want to do. I can replace it with a 60 gig drive for about $100. However, I have no information on jumpering (is it even needed on a Mac OS/X?) or on any equivalent program to DOS' fdisk - if I swap the drive out and boot from the OS/X CD, will it recognize that the drive is out there and attempt to format it for me or is there something else I need to do?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

The jumpers should be set to master (cos that's what you need if you want to replace the drive).

Yes it'll recognise the drive and you can format it from there.

I've added one to my G3 b/w.
Agree with the above poster - jumper to master as per instruction on the drive diagram or manufacturers web site.

Use some care removing the original drive (if it's the b/w tower) as the set screw in the front of the drive strips out quite easily. Snug fitting screwdriver very critical.

Now my "X" did not recognize the second drive but I do believe it's a drive disorder - and nothing more.
