My Mac G3 is connected to a PC Laptop via crossover cable. I want to be able to share files on both computers. What are the steps involved.?

You do not mention the OS on either the mac or the PC so I have to be VERY general here, but you could make one machine an FTP server and use an FTP client on the other machine

if we know real details, we could offer more detail.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Running OS 8.6 on G-3 ... Windows 2000 Home Edition on laptop. Crossover cable connected. Laptop is trying to reach G-3 but is getting no answer. Not using internet ... it's just a cable to computer hookup.

I think it may be a setting that's wrong. I have File Sharing set to "on" in the G-3.

I have Fetch FTP on my Mac so if via the internet is the only way, that would be great if you tell me how to use the FTP between the two ... who is host, etc.

Thanks again.

I have used WAR ftp as a FTP host on a PC, it is free if you are not a government.

The Mac uses Appletalk for file sharing, while the PC uses SMB, I think TCP/IP is the only protocol they share by default, so FTP should work.

If you wanted to spend money, thursby systems sells software to make a Mac do SMB called DAVE.
