I've been assisting people online for years, though only fairly recently on this site - one tool I've never seen mentioned here (or anywhere else) is:
It's freeware (unlike Everest), HIGHLY detailed (seems to have more details than any other program I've seen - including data like the manufacture date of RAM and monitors), doesn't do Benchmarking, but DOES interrogate the system identifying processes with open files (the openfiles command really only shows files open via the network, this does local too). Really, it seems like it's some combination of Everest and several SysInternals tools as well.
In any case, check it out - it's free. (I found it in the newest issue of Windows IT Pro, page 70 I believe)
