FVS318 and Contivity 1700 compatibility for branch office connection

Anyone know if its possible to set up a branch office connection between a Netgear FVS318 and a Nortel Contivity 1700? I've reached an impasse after quite a bit of effort. The Contivity log shows "client not responding, logging out"

The Netgear log shows "malformed payload in packet"
