When making a backup with ufsdump, will the size of the dump file be the same size as the filesystem (or at least, the used portion) that was backed up? Apparently I've got a little over 8Gb on an oracle partition and it happily fit itself all on a little 4Gb tape. Hmmmm... The man pages mention nothing of compression and doing a ufsrestore -i lets me peruse all of the files and they seem to all be there. Anybody else have this? Thanks. Mike

Could be the device you're using to take the backup (/dev/rmt/0cn perhaps) uses hardware compression which will allow you to save this amount of data to such a tape. HTH.
