I have a program that opens a port but I can't find out what some of the functions are.

readval = rxchardly(PORT1,30,2)
ret_val = rxcount(PORT1)

What third party library are you using to handle the communictions? It does not look like Silverclip. Didn't it come with some sort of help file (.NG)?

This almost sounds like the predecessor to Silverclip.. SilverComm version 2.2

I found the disk and documentation and these funtions ar in there.

By the way.. I have silverclip 4.11 disks 1 and 2. but I can't find disk 3. but cannot find disk number 3. Would anyone have it ?

Thnx

I use silverclip for clipper 5.0. It seems to have some problem with communications with the newer computers under windows. Does any one know why?

From my experiance, Windows likes to control all ports directly. Basically locking out any DOS application from manipulating them directly. There are some exceptions. Windows 95 and 98 still allow DOS apps to control the ports, but 2K, NT and XP have greater strictions in doing this.

Is there away around the windows control from within Clipper?

It's more of the case of setting up the DOS window to have full control of the environment first, then the Clipper application will work as expected.
