I get this error message whenver I try to connect to a mySQL server from a php3 page on Linux:

Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function mysql_connect() in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/staging/staff/index.php3 on line 3

I read in the manual pages I need to install php form the source tarball, which I did. I downloaded it directly to my server from <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> and installed it with apache. Everything should be working. Any ideas on why this is happening?
hey all,

I fixed the problem. I had to install PHP with the --with-mysql flag to gain support for mysql related functions.
