How do I programme function keys on an imac, when I press on them they say I need to set them up, but I don't have a clue how to do this, so all my programs do not work and I have to revert back to the long way to do everything. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks
As Wardy66 says have you looked at Keyboard under control panels?
I have never set up the F keys to lunch programs, case I have found if you do you lose the functions under the apps. If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.
I have looked at the keyboard control panel, but haven't got a clue on how to set up all of the keys for all the different programs, its all dutch to me!! I.e if I want to use quark express I can't go to f12 to do that command if I got to dreamweaver I can't got to f12 to preview/publish, same as all of them I have to goto the menu items and do it the long way, I just wanted to know how I set this up as in all my comouters before this imac, the function keys have worked automatically.
Thanks
I've got the same problem since installing OS 9.1. The keyboard control panel is no use – it just offers a directory, to use Fkeys for opening applications etc. What's happened to my F2, F3, F4 (cut/copy/paste), all my show/hide keys for Quark, etc etc? I don't have this problem with 9.1 on my laptop.
So it must be something to do with OS 9.1, do people have the same problem with OS X, and if anyone knows how to solve the problem for OS 9.1 as I would love to have all my quick keys back.
Thanks
Just sorted it!!
Go Apple menu to Control Panels, to Keyboard. Click Options. The Hot Keys checkbox should be ticked. Click to uncheck it, close the Control Panel, and your OS, Quark etc Fkeys should work as normal.
If you want to configure Hot Keys to open applications, games etc, check the Hot Keys box, but hold down the Options key when using your Fkeys, to do the normal stuff (cut, copy, paste, show/hide etc).
