I copied a databse from another server (Windows Server 2000 operating system)onto a new server with Windows Server 2003 installed. This database had a fulltext search catalog located on e: drive. E drive does not exist onthe other server.

When I try to populate the catalog it saiy that MSSearch is not running. But the server says that full-text search is started and it let me create a full text catalog on another database. It will not let me populate the old catalog or create a new one onthe the database which had full-text search.

Fulltext search - create a new catalog is grayed out in ENterprise manager. When I try to repopulate the error I get is Full text search not enable for the current database. Use sp_fulltext_database to enable. So I run this system stored procedure and get an error saying that my full-text search is not installed properly. It won't let me frop the catalog either.

I think the problem is that the sysfulltext catalog is holding the old location for the fulltext catalog. I can change that to a new location but before I did, I was wondering if anyone else has ever experience this problem and how they solved it. I couldn't find anything in Microsoft Knowledge base about this. And I hate to mess with data inthe sys files if I don't have to.

SQLSister,
I had this same issue when upgrading a server. I'm fairly sure that I went into the system table and corrected the location of the full text data catalog to the new location, and then was able to have it repopulate.

Thank you much. I suspected as much, but wanted to confirm before messing with the system tables.
