For some reason our full text catalog won't seem to repopulate.
The database is SQL2K running in SQL7 compatibility mode on a cluster. One table in the catalog.
Remote to the primary machine in the cluster is the only way to stop and start Full Text search.
In EM on cluster machine, I can navigate to the Full Text Catalog, right click and start population. SQL acknowledges that it has started but then nothing appears to happen. When I right click the catalog again, the option to stop population is grayed out, the start and rebuild catalog options are enabled. And in properties, Item count is 1, unique key count is 1.
What's not working?

Is there anything in the ERRORLOG?

Have you removed the BUILTIN\Administrators group from the instance?

Both instances above come up negative. Error log appears clean (with respect to running the Full text catalog) and the builtin/administrators is part of the instance.

HOLY CRAP I'm going out of my tree! HELP!

I have a copy of the database running in a test environment, server running SQL2K5, db in 7 compatibility. I can create the full text catalog as normal and it populates just fine on it's own. No, disk space on production server is not an issue.
But I can neither connect to the production server with Mgt Studio and get the catalog to populate, run EM locally, connect to the production server and get it to populate or remote to the server itself and get it to populate. All I get is "Population of full-text catalog started" but it doesn't do anything. No one is actively using the database save for one background job.

I would recommend starting with the lack of connection from remote machines. Can you telnet from a remove machine to port 1433? Is the server setup for remote access? Are there any firewalls installed on the server?

MrDenny,
You might be confused. I have no problem establishing a remote connection to either machine in the cluster.

Sorry I mistook the line
But I can neither connect to the production server with Mgt Studio and get the catalog to populate
to mean that you couldn't connect to the server now.

Anything in the application or system logs from the MS Search Service? Try restarting it?

Has anyone changed the account that the MS Search Service is running under?
