I have a question about restoring a server in Windows 2000 concerning the proper procedure.
According to CA customer support, the proper procedure to restore a server is this:
1.Delete the crashed server account in active directory.
2.Reinstall windows 2k with crashed server account name and join domain.
3.Restore from tape backup to new account selecting "restore to original location".
4.Reboot server.
It seems that when you reboot the server, you are re-establishing the ORIGINAL account (original SID) in active directory, not the new one that you created with the new install (new SID)and this will lead to problems as a member of the domain. Am I correct or am I missing something in the procedure or my thinking?
Thank for any input,
Rk
