Hi,

I have a couple of W2K standalone servers which are being backup through the client agent. I backup the whole system, C,D,registry,systemstat..etc, for all of them to the remote ARCserve 2000 server with the latest sp.

Question:
What is the best way to do a full restore of these machine. Just imagine that the hd failed and I replaced the hd with the new one. Step by step answer will be nice....thanks.

HI,

This being a standalone server, i assume this does not have
ADS on it....

1. reinstall OS \ patch up to original setup
2. install ARCserve NT client agent \ apply Service packs
3. onthe arcserve manager create a restore job which
restores the entire backup (C;. D:. systemstate,reg)

4. reboot.

If this server has ADS configured on it...

1. install OS\patchup
2. install NT Agent
3. reboot server into Directory Services restore mode.
4. Restore the System state.
5. reboot the server into Normal Mode
6. restore the drives...

hope this helps
cheers

Thanks,

So it is ok to restore over the existing files that is being used by the OS. I was thinking installing the OS in a different directory and then do the full restore of the server. Then boot to the restored folder.

How about user rights and permission on the folder? Are those stored in the systemstat?

HI,

averything is in the system state...
Point & shoot... :)

cheers
