If I would purchase the XP Pro upgrade version, would I be able to perform a fresh install in case of problems down the road.

For example: If my pc crashes after having upgraded from 2000 to XP, will I have to install 2000 prior to XP again?

Thanks.

The upgrade will ask you to insert the CD for your prior version of Windows during the install. You do not need to actually install the prior version.

An Upgrade version of XP is as good as a Full version as long as you have the Qualifying Product CD to produce at Setup when the XP upgrade version will ask for it to be briefly inserted into the CD-ROM.
