The hard drive is showing as almost full, but listing the files does not equate with the capacity of used memory. The recycle bin is empty.I have been copying dvd`s using nero.

Have you doubled checked that the dvds havn't been copied to the hard drive? Just a few DVDs would fill a 40g drive pretty fast. I don't know Nero but you might check by going to the C: drive in my computer and looking in programs then Nero and see if it has a folder in there that is saving the movies to the hard drive and not deleting them. If so delete them and look in the software's options to have it delete them automaticly.

I check this, it is a 20g Drive, 18.2 g used.

There was 500mb in documents and settings folder.
About 2 gig in the windows folder and Program files took up about 4gig. I empted the recycle bin, deleted cookies, deleted all internet history. Ensured that all files were being viewed, and still about 10gigish missing.
