I have a Linux server that is backed up with daily differentials Mon to Fri, and a weekly full over the weekend to B2D.

The full backup backs up 5 directories, and works fine, if I use the restore function and browse the Linux server I can see by full backup set, I can see the 5 directories it has backed, all well good. Now, on the Tuesday morning, after the Monday night differential backup, if I go and look at my full backup set (the one that previously had all 5 directories showing) via the restore, the full backup set is now minus 4 directories/folders and the now the diff backup shows all of them – except they are now not complete, some of the previously full backed up directories are now empty – what is going on or what am I doing wrong?

It has done this twice before; it all works for a few weeks then starts doing this.

Backup to disk media sound like it being overwritten.

Also make sure you backup job (full and diff) on the linux sever backup method is "using modified time".

You will need to re-run the full backup if the backup type was not by "modifed time

Thanks for the reply.

Both the full and diff backups use the modified time.

However, and this is where I night be going wrong, the full backup is configured to 'overwrite' the media using modified time, the diffs are configured to 'append' using modified time. Should I be using 'append' for the full as well?

The other 2 servers that are backed up (Windows servers though) are configured the in the same and they work perfectly well - so I don't get why it shouldn't work for the other jobs.

All of the B2D get dumped to tape on the Monday morning (around 1.2TB).
