My backup server is the PDC and my Exchange server is a BDC. I want to do a full backup of the Exchange server. Should I select everything on the Exchange server for backup or are their certain things I can exclude, such as the pagefile.sys? What is the minimum I should select in order to restore all email functionality in case of a disaster?

Are concerned in backing up your BDC/Exchange Server regarding the amount of tape being used? My experience says there is no trade off for backing the server in FULL. I'm certain you could exclude the pagefile.sys files as they are used for RAM storage or virtual memory storage and would get recreated if not present at NT bootup. If you just want to take care of Exchange, my guess would be back up the fill <drive>:\Exchsrvr and all subdirectories; the boot drive root; and the <drive>:\WINNT and its subdirectories and you should be able to put Exchange back online from that restore. The only other issues regards the BDC and if you have WINS and DNS on the BDC backing up the PDC.

Depending on what software you are using there is a special Echange Backup Agent which will do a full backup of exchange and get the file normal backup misses. This is important as I found out the hard way. We use ArcServe IT but Veritas also has an Exchange Backup Agent.

in ultraback software you can do image file and 3 boot diske how cane restor full server from scratch.
boot from the floppy and it go to the image in the tape and restor all the server.

it not good to work Exchange on BDC.
it use the RAM to do autentication for the users.
