HI, I HAVE FUJITSU MPG 3409AV HDD ON WHITCH I JUST DID LOW LEVEL NOW ITS FINALLY RECOGNIZED BY BIOS BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO FORMAT IT ?

I FOUND A SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR LOW LEVELING THAT DRIVE ON FUJITSU'S WEBSITE .

WHEN I OPEN DIAGNOSTIC TOOL APPLICATION THEN IT SAYS THAT I MUST DO A HIGH LEVEL OF THAT DRIVE ??

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN AND HOW CAN I DO THAT ??

hunderpuss1,

Low vs high is a mis-nomer with todays IDE drives and is a carry over from the MFM drive days.

You need to run "format 'drive letter'", you can accomplish this if you can first access Fdisk to establish a partition, when this has been done at the command line enter (drive letter replaceable with the correct letter)

format c: ....... then press enter and follow prompts.

Hope this helps

Best way at this point would be to get a win 98 boot disk, set bios to boot from floppy. Once you get to dos then run fdisk, as mentioned above by rvnguy. First have a look and see what fdisk says about the disk. If there is anything there you can use fdisk to delete anything that is there. There shouldnt be anything there but just in case. Once you are sure the drive is clean then partition and format.
You have to partition, then reboot and go back to dos and format the drive.
Sorry about that, THUNDERPUSS1, im not sure how well you know this stuff.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips
