Hi,

I have a Intel AL440LX Motherboard and a Fujitsu MPG3409AH Hard Disk, but when I try to get the HD to work, I get a message saying that no operating system was found. I have tried all combinations of jumper settings (slave, cable and master settings) but have had no luck.
I have the Win98 (2nd edtn) installation CD in the CD drive but it doesnt seem to recognise the CD Drive either.

Prior to getting the disk I had a Fujitsu MPA3052AT Hard disk which worked sucessfully with the motherboard. I have tried to re-setup that but had had no luck (I recieved the same message).

Do I need to create some sort of Win98 Boot Disk or something and if so whats the best way to go about it? I can get internet access thru my friends PC next door.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Chris

If you intend to run the win98 OS a startup disk would be handy... you can make one from your friends pc (if he is running win98 ) from "ADD/REMOVE Programs" in the control panal. you will need a 1.44MB floppy

the mother board you have has two IDE channels

let me know how meny hard drives/ CD-ROMs you are using

try not to mix hard drives and CD-ROM on the same IDE cable

ie:

set up the hard drive as Primary master

set up the CD-ROM as secondry master

boot the machine from the startup floppy (boot disk)

watch the screen as it boots you will see a line saying something like "hit DEL to enter setup" do so

you will then enter the BIOS set up program

using the cursor key navigate to "IDE AUTO DETECT" hit enter

the BIOS will then find both your hard drive and CD-ROM hit [ESC] and exit setup by save and exit option

your pc will then restart when asked if you wish to have CD-ROM support answer Y Yes

at the A: prompt type DIR C:

if you get "NO files found"

there is no OS on the drive with the windows 98se cd in the cdrom type SETUP and this will take you into windows set up..

if you get INVALID MEDIA TYPE let me know

Hi,

I made the Startup disk.

But it had problems with my CD-ROM (A Matsushita CR-585-B (Year 1997)) - It says something about MSCD001 and then "NO DRIVERS FOUND" and then at the end it says "Driver not found - aborting installation".

at the A:> prompt i can type C: (giving me the C prompt - think this is for the RAMdrive that the disk creates) but typing D: and E: gives me the "INVALID" problem.

I cannot find the to "IDE AUTO DETECT" on the F2 - Bios I have tried using the "AUTO" function for the individual options on Primary IDE Master, Secondary IDE Master etc - is this what you meant or am I doing something different?

At the moment Im just trying to run the Hard Disk and CD-Rom (each on seperate cables). How do I tell which one ive connected to the Primary and which to the secondary. Also Im using one 2 plug cable and one 3 plug cable, should I leave the middle plug empty on the 3 plug cable?

Please Advise me as to what to do.

the first thing you need to do is be sure your pc is finding the IDE devices.

set the BIOS so all the IDE channels are set to AUTO, save&exit BIOS set-up

as the pc boots you will see a system line saying detecting IDE devices or something close to that

you sould see the names of your devices come up

ie fujitsu xxxxxxxxx for the hard drive

and

matsushait xxxxxxxx for the CD-ROM

boot the pc from the boot floppy

at the A: prompt type FDISK

option 4 display partition information

let me know what comes up
