Fuji FinePix 4.0i

I have a Fuji Finepix 4.0i. When I try to open a video in Premiere it tells me that the file compression is not supported. The camera uses Motion JPEG and the files appear as an AVI when saved. Why, when the samples are AVI, won't my camrera files open?
