could I or could I not do changing mode of Files and directories (either in the +/-r format or the numeric format) in UNIX/WinNT's FTP? If so, how?

The reason I ask is that is is unusual for ISP to provide telnet facilities for doing
Code:
chmod
!

Haha.. I tried that
unfortunately, chmod in NT4's DOS or Solaris' FTP is an invalid command :)

why do you want to change the mod of files on an HTTP server that you don't own?

just checking, do you need too?

I don't feel that directories should be browsable? do you? Well, some (commercial/personal)Internet sites do, and some don't!

on some servers this is enforced, the commands available in FTP depend almost exclusively on the ftp server at the other end, so if there is no chmod, then you can't change the permissions.

if it's an NT box at the other end, can you access it by dial-up networking lark (i doubt it, but it might be possible)? if you could then you might be able change the permissions.

other than that, there is little you can do, unless you can access the hardware :)
