I created an FTP web on my WIN2k server . I forewarded port 21 to the internal IP of the machine. I can FTP://computername and connect from within the Intranet. I cannot however connect from the internet using a registered DNS name.... FTP:// or FTP://domainname.com/ . Have I forewarded the correct port? Or is there some other configuration that needs to be set? In short, I am trying to set up FTP access to files and folders on my Win2k server, using IE5/6 from home to read and write files. Does the TCP/IP address in FTP site Identification need to point the the IP address of the FTP server machine? It is now Default FTP site "All unassigned". Is this my problem?
Thanks,
DAve

Well, without further details, I can only offer my 2 cents:

When you mentioned "I forewarded port 21 to the internal IP of the machine", I assume you forwarded from either your your Router or Firebox, which is indeed necessary. Did you, however, point your domain name " to your network router or firebox address (from your ISP DNS servers)? You may use nslookup to check out if the IP address is correct.

Let me know what you find.

I have registered the name.com with my ISP DNS to point to my linksys router. Port 80 goes to a certain machine and port 21 goes to another machine with an Internal IP 192.168.x.x etc, on which I am trying to host my FTP Server. Accessing from the Internet and Using FTP:// or FTP://domainname.com/ I cannot connot see the folders, but I can when I use FTP://computername from within the intranet. Do I have to make a additional specific DNS registration for an FTP server address (my linksys router), even if it is the same as my HTTP server (my linksys router)??
Thanks for the advise
Dave

Dave: I assume it is DNS problem, but I may be wrong.

Did you have your domain name " registered in your ISP DNS servers, pointing it to your network router's IP? In other words, do you have web access to "
Use 'nslookup' to verify the hosting server's IP (is that the same with your router's IP?). Let me know what you find.
