FTP upload problem, connection hangs.

Here's the prob:
I get into my FTP proggie (doesn't matter which one. I've got three, CuteFTP, WS_FTP, and 1UglyFTP), and no matter which one I use my upload speeds are pathetic. I've got a wireless connection comparable to an ISDN, and never had this problem until about a week ago.

The upload starts out good, nice and fast, but after a few seconds the speed begins to drop off until about a minute later it gets to about .07kbs. It stays there until the file is complete. I can use browser uploads just fine for the whole free website dealies out there, but I've got a website with an FTP account that I want to load this stuff to. If the file is smaller (html file, small gif, etc.) it's just fine.

Downloads are great, just upload probs. Anyone ever hear of this? I looked all over the net, but to no avail. Maybe I just ought to do what everyone else does when they get steamed at their comps.... FORMAT!! arrrggh!

Oh, btw. I DID try using a different ftp server from a different company to test it out... same results.

Using Cute, it just got about halfway through a 125 kb download and cut me off. After the cutoff the conn was frozen and I had to disconnect and reconnect to delete the incomplete file. Grrrrrrr.

I've seen this a whole lot. Most IP protocols operate on a single port number making it easy to set firewall rules. FTP, however uses 2. One (21) to send control packets, and another (20) to send the data stream. Many people don't realize this when setting up access-lists and rulesets.

Make sure you have both ports open on your firewall.
