FTP to VMS - dir and underscores added to filename

Trying to FTP to a VMS machine (OpenVMS Alpha v7.2-1) from a Unix machine and getting the dir appended to the filename and additional underscore characters added.

Currently configuring the FTP as follows

outbound directory = SYS$LOGIN
outbound filename = ATEST.TXT
directory listing style = VMS

end up on VMS machine with

SYS$LOGIN_ATEST.TXT_;1

Anyone with any ideas
