ftp through vpn times out

i have 2000k configured as a vpn accepting incoming connections thru the internet . Downloading files from the ftp server behind it works well both with dial-up through a isp and a wireless link thru a isp but uploading files thru a dailup gives connection closed by remote host but works fine with a wireless pls what can i do
yours desperately
