I have written a script to ftp a file somthing like the one at:

How can I determine if the transfer has been successfull?

I'm sure this question has been asked a 1000 times before but I still can't find an answer - is there one.

the only way I know to check success without checking some sort of meta data in the file your ftp'ing (line count, date) is to redirect the output of ftp to a log file and then looking for failure or abort messages in that logfile,

It's fairly hard to do this with command line scripting, but fairly easy if you use a language like Perl and the appropriate module where you can test for success.
