Hey,

I was interested in knowing if any one could provide me with a list of maybe 2 or 3 of the best pieces of third-party FTP software with relation to FrontPage. The site, which is my first, is complete, but I am having problems trying to publish it as the ‘publish web’ icon is never lit. I am missing something concerning this final stage? Is my copy of FrontPage faulty?

If someone can provide me with any details relevant to this enquiry, I would be most grateful.

Thanks.

As far as the publish button goes, are you sure you saved the entire site first?

Also, are you sure you've set up the details for publishing your site?

Also, have you tried going to the File menu, and selecting "publish" from there?

Also, make sure your web host supports Frontpage extensions - if they do not, you can't "publish" from within Frontpage.

And make sure that you have the Frontpage extensions enabled in your web hosting package. I know that with my current hose, I had to enable that option, as it was disabled by default.

If you want to try other FTP programs, I know I've used FileZilla, and it works very well, and it's totally free. I've used CuteFTP Pro at work, but it's not free. And for a website, I don't see CuteFTP offering anything that FileZilla does not (that you actually need).
You can go here to try it:

it sounds like your files are not in a "Frontpage Web".

On the My Computer icon, drill down to where you have your web stored on your computer. On that main folder, does it have a globe on the folder?

If not, then you do not have your website in a "Frontpage Web". Did you go to File - New Web when you started? Frontpage uses this to help maintain the links, etc

FPSE Configuration Options and Features - this is a list of all the components that will require you to publish via http. If you are not using any of these, you can use FTP to upload your site.

kjv1611 and CoreyBryant,

Many thanks for your advice.

I was wondering however, if you could elaborate more on the below points taken from your initial replies to my thread:

- As far as the publish button goes, are you sure you saved the entire site first?

- Also, are you sure you've set up the details for publishing your site?

- it sounds like your files are not in a "Frontpage Web". On the My Computer icon, drill down to where you have your web stored on your computer. On that main folder, does it have a globe on the folder?

If you could supply any further information regarding this, I’d be most grateful.

Once again, many thanks.

Hey Corey,

I don't have a globe on the folder and, as referenced above, I am not sure how to save my entire website, as mentioned in kjv1611’s post. My pages are saved as individual HTML documents which, of course, have links to each other and are all in the same folder, yet does this not constitute a website? I am just puzzled as to how other people have published sites; and in following the advice given by publications and people, I can’t seem to get it to work.

Sorry for asking what appear to you as such simple questions, but I am running out of options of what to try.

Many thanks for the reply anyway

if it does not have a globe on it - it is not a "frontpage website" and that is why you cannot publish.

In FP, you need to go to File - New Website and FP will create a website for you. Now you can copy your HTML / image files in there and you should be able to publish. You will probably have to check your paths to the images and other HTML pages
