Microsoft Internet Explorer wants to close when attempting to go to a FTP site and gives the message "microsoft internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" The OS is Windows 2000 and the IE version is 6.0.2800.1106
The browser will surf http sites successfully.

Couple of IE options that might be worth looking at

Go to tools, internet options, advanced tab.

Enable folder view for FTP
Use passive ftp

Do one at a time, if its enabled, disable it. If its disabled, enable.

Another possiblity is the browser cache is too big, empty it. Post back if this doesn't help. Also with the answer to "did this ever work," and "when did this start?"

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
