Hello,

I have noticed this problem more than a few times already. My adapter is DHCP enabled. Lease time for IP is 30 minutes. If an FTP session is in progress during the DHCP renew time (around 15 minutes), the FTP session gets terminated. I have tried this with Win2K service pack 3, WinXp but both show the same behaviour. Any insight into this will help me a lot.

Thanks
Ramesh

Thanks for the reply. But I forgot to mention that using static IP is not an option that is available to me.

The lease time for your DHCP obtained address is adjustible at the DHCP server. You should be able to set a least time of several days; in many cases you can set it to forever.

This is not adjustable on the client.

Before beginning an extended FTP session manually force a lease renewal to set the timer: Start, Run, ipconfig /release, followed by ipconfig /renew.
