I had an FTP server running for a while with no problem. The user used to sign in using "user" and "password" format. Now all of the sudden it only works if the user sign in using "domain\username" and "password".
Does anyone had anything like this before?
Thank you for your help.

Possible items to check;

- Have you modified your authentication settings for the FTP site
- Was the server previously on the domain and now is in workgroup mode
- Is the FTP folder stored on a remote server share

No. Everything was about the same. The only change was that this server was a secondary / backup DC and now is a member server. I demoted from DC.
Folder is stored locally.
thank you.

So you had IIS installed when this was a DC for the domain and then you demoted it to a member server (I'll assume it's in the same domain). Since now you have both the ability to have local and domain based accounts, this behaviour could be by design.

Any workaround for this though? I really don't want my guest to know the domain name.

Try changing the IIS settings for your FTP site to basic authentication and add the domain name in the REALM box.

Curious, when it was a DC, you had assigned network accounts? You may need to check Windows Authentiaction as well as Basic.

Can you be more specific please? I don't remember where I have to go to do this.
Thank you.

I do apologize, I mixed my Web Sites info with FTP details. In FTP, I have always configured local accounts on the FTP server for access. Did you have network accounts accessing an FTP site on a Domain Controller?

Yes. The access to the FTP server is based on the Domain users - however the FTP server is part of the domain but not a Domain Controller.
