Hello, I would like to give a specific user/s the ability to FTP files to our system running AIX 5.2. Is there some standard format to setup user/s ability to FTP files to specific directory/s on an AIX system. I am going through the tedious task of granting groups the authority to the directory /s they will need to FTP too. Please advise.

Your best bet is to install a new ftp daemon like proftpd. These enable you to set better security accross the board for ftp connections. I use proftpd (RPM available on IBM's website) to restrict user access to certain filesytems and directories(my users do not have access to their own home directories via ftp), better log their activities, and use virtual servers to separate departments in my company. Proftpd has many of the same security features as Apache. You can also use it for SSL and SSH connections.

There are other products that will provide similar functionality and security from both proprietary and open source endeavors.

Good luck,
