I have a user running Windows 2000 and IE 6.0 SP1. He is trying to download some FTP files from a website, but he gets a 404 page not available error. However, I can access this website and download the FTP files from a number of other computers in the company with no problems. We do use a proxy server to access the internet, and his settings are all what they're supposed to be. Any ideas?

In IE check Tools, Options, Advanced for:

Enable folder view for FTP sites
Use Passive for FTP (for firewall....)

Compare these settings to the other machines. Hope this helps.

I use Iexplorer 6.0.2 and after I ftp files to a site I own, I can no longer get to that site via http; I get a 404 error message.

I have had to reinstall Windows XP because of this already. Please tell me if there is another solution?

Windows XP; broadband; netgear NIC;BlackIce firewall;

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, uncheck Show friendly HTTP error messages -- (this is located under "Browsing").
