FTP Problem

Dear Friends,

I use Cute FTP software to upload files on the server.
When i use dial-up network, it works well.

But when I use same software through internet via LAN, it fails to connect to server.

I guess there is something to be done with Firewall settings. I don't have much idea about Firewall and proxy. Are they same terms? What should I do to connect that on LAN internet?
