Hello, strange situation. I can successfully ftp to an internal machine, say 10.2.0.100, but whenever I try an external, like ftp.something.com I keep getting the error:

" ftp: connect: No route to host "

any ideas anyone?

sorry sorry sorry - never mind. just realized that if I had read the error message it would have been pretty clear that a route add statement would suffice...

Guess ur machine is not client of any name service (DNS / NIS&DNS) on ur machine.. U wont need to add any route if u r client of such naming service..
Otherwise u hav to add the route to host specifically
