I need some help & appreciate if some one can guide me in this regard.

I need to create a login user in Unix system to have only FTP access to upload files in a purticular directory & with read & write permissions in that directory only.

The user should not be able to change directories, run any unix system level commands..

How the above is possible??

Waiting for your reply..

Hi,

It depends on ftp server application. Are you on linux or *bsd or solaris etc etc? If you on linux redhat, you can achieve this using vsftpd server which has built-in chroot function. Or you can use wu-ftpd which also has chroot built-in function.

There's a good description of how to set up a fairly secure anonymous FTP server on the in.ftpd man page in Solaris.

I am using Sco Unix ( version 2.1.2- A very old version) & the user want to ftp files to this server from a windows 2000 PC.

Pls. reply

Yuck, I will have a look on our Sco 2.3 box and see if it's possible. Do you have a C compiler on the server in case the current default FTP server cannot do it?
