I have an ftp server running SunOS5.6 it recieves some excel documents. The problem is that when the files are ftp'ed to another unix server and then picked up by the user and put on their local harddrive it gives the error that it can't be accessed or that it is read only. I have tried the transfer in ascii and binary and it gives me the same error. I have also changed the permissions on the file to rw for everyone. The ftp script that runs also takes away the control M's at the end of the line. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

Just the ftp that comes with solaris. I hope to be changing it to Proftpd soon though.

I am not sure how the excel file gets to the Sun box, but assuming that file is good. A straight ftp with the binary option should work just fine (There will be no ^M since it is binary.) Have you verified that you can open the file on the Sun box (ie Star Office).
