Hi there

Hope someone can help

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to call an FTP Macro
via a shell script

Have set up an netrc file containing two macros (one for an upload and one for a download) - I have been able to issue the FTP <hostname> and called the netrc entry which logs me on, but what I need to do is issue the $macroname
from within the script and I dont seem to be able to pass it to the FTP prompt generated by the logon

Any ideas ?

Perhaps tftp would be better? It has a command-line interface. A clip from the man page:

Using the Command Line Form of the tftp Command

1. To copy a text file from a remote host and write it to a local file, enter:
tftp -g newsched host1 /home/john/schedule

$ _

In this example, the /home/john/schedule file was copied from the remote
host host1 and written to the local file newsched.

Then there is rsh, which is even easier. Both of these require some trust between the hosts. IBM Certified -- AIX 4.3 Obfuscation
