Hi - Running 4.3.3 ML4, At some point in time a previous SA copied the ftpd from /sbin to /etc and named the /etc version in inetd.conf, this left us with a very old beta version of ftpd ( 27/10/98 ). I eventually found out why the ftpd is running the beta version because of this named version in /etc and changed this so it would load the /sbin version but this has now left another problem, namely the login incorrect even though the pasword is 100% correct. Now I believe it is because the ftp account in question is in uppercase ( go back to the old version and your straight in ) could anyone confirm or deny this ??? the documentation although very good, does not state limitations of user accounts ( or not that I can find ). Should I tell the customer ( FM contract ) that all usernames should be changed ?? I couldn't see any reason at first for doing this copy of the ftpd to /etc BUT if the above is right and the new versions don't support uppercase it would make sense.

I now know the solution to the above problem.... the old version supprots the use of the -a flag which overrides the security/passwd file, now what I need to know is which version of the ftpd is not beta but supports -a. I am loading different versions of AIX onto a test system now but if anyone knows of a version between 4.2.1 and 4.3.3 could you let me know please - If I find it first I'll post on here.

Lags,

I am on AIX 4.3.3 ML-06....ftp daemon 30 Aug 2000.

I am cofirm that both uppercase usernames and passwords are o.k. at this version, I would suggest that you have another problem. Why do you not upgrade the "bos.net.tcp.client" fileset to the latest level to give you the latest ftpd.

Cheers

PSD, yep I know what the problem is ( see above post ) - the latest version of ftpd doesn't support the -a flag so I'm looking for a version now that does.
