FTP hyperlink doesn't work

Hi,
I need links to files that are on our FTP server (which doesn't allows anonymus connections). The problem is that the server doesn't ask for authentication when going from the link as it would do by typing the same address in the browser.
I also tried inserting the username in the link but it still doesn't work.

Is it a normal behaviour and if yes, how do I run over it?

for a link with username and password in the link is like:

http://username:password@thedomainname.com

That might not be exactly right, but it's close.
